Blake Shleton is one of the most famous country music personalities ever. His debut single, ‘Austin’, alone spent 5 weeks on the Billboard Hot Country Songs list.
His life has been full of heartache and success. It seems that the heartache he’s been through has truly molded and shaped his music to be a powerful tool to relate to people, to pull them out of their own struggles, even for a brief moment.
Blake was born in Ada, Oklahoma in 1976 where he began singing at a very young age. His uncle quickly saw his talent and began to teach him how to play the guitar.
Shelton quickly took to it as he had natural musical abilities and began to write songs at the age of 15. He received a Denbo Diamond award when he was just 16 years old.
It was the same year that Shelton lost his brother, Richie, in an automobile accident. The grief of losing his brother haunted him for years, and it became a necessity for him to write to process through the incident.
Shortly after his high school graduation. Shelton moved to Nashville, TN to pursue a music career. He first signed with Giant Records in 2001 who helped him release his first single “Austin” which had incredible success. It stayed at Number 1 for 5 weeks on the Billboard Hot Country List.
Here’s one of my favorite performances of “Austin” live at the CMA Music Festival.
This would launch Shelton into stardom.
He then went on to release 4 more albums, all of which containing singles that stayed among the Billboard’s Top Country Songs for several weeks.
But not everything Shelton touched turned to gold.
In 2003, 2 years after he began his successful career, Shelton married long time girlfriend and high school sweetheart, Kaynette Gern.
It was just a few years after this that he met Miranda Lambert and fell in love with her while singing the duet “You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma.”
“I was a married guy, you know? Standing up there and singing with somebody and going, ‘Man, this shouldn’t be happening.” – Blake Shelton on falling in love with Lambert
Here’s that famous performance.
He then moved on to date Lambert in 2007 just after getting divorced from Kaynette and eventually married her in 2011.
Lambert and Shelton would be married for 4 years. It was during this time that he became a personality and coach for the hit show “The Voice” along with Adam Levine, Pharell Williams, and Gwen Stefani.
Rumors of infidelity plagued both Lambert and Shelton in 2015, when they announced they were getting a divorce. Shortly after, Blake quickly jumped into another relationship with his colleague, Gwen Stefani.
Blake was surprised with news just a few months after their relationship began, that Stefani was pregnant with their first child. They’ve both agreed to make a permeant move to Oklahoma once the child is born.
They are also planning to get married after things settle down for them, but no current news on that as of late.
Blake Shelton has led a very interesting life, one that has involved a lot of pain and heartache. It’s one reason why the songs he writes stay so relevant as he relates to problems that a lot of people experience.
We’re looking forward to see what the future has for Blake and Gwen. Is it just complicating an already complicated life?
We’re praying for Blake as he looks to raising a child in the next few months. Parenthood can surly be a wake up call and a catalyst for change in a persons life.
