America is heartbroken after hearing one of their greatest has passed away. Please pray for this family.
Jimmy Breslin was one of the most admired and loved columnists in America, and he died Sunday morning at age 88. New York Daily News reported his death saying that it was due to complications of pneumonia.
William Cole, who was Breslin’s physician released a statement to CNN stating that Breslin passed away at 8a.m.
“He was a force of nature…”
Everyone who knew Breslin loved him and considered him a friend. He never met a stranger and he always made people laugh.
In fact, some news columns posted that Breslin was 86 years old at the time of his death. His physician cleared everything up saying that there was a funny story to go with it.
“There’s a funny story to go with that,” Cole told CNN, saying he had a copy of Breslin’s birth certificate. “Apparently somewhere along the way he lied,” Cole said, recalling a conversation with a former newspaper editor. “He wanted to be the youngest person at a certain paper. Usually it’s the other way around.”
Breslin was truly a legend and wrote for columns like the News, the New York Post, Newsday, the New York Herald Tribune, New York Journal American and the Daily News.
The writer also won a Pulitzer Prize for Commentary in 1986. He was a pioneer for upcoming columnists and he continued to write until the day of his death.
Many friends and coworkers shared their thoughts on social media saying that we truly lost a great one. I couldn’t agree more! This man has left a legacy. Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers…
The sidewalks of NY have lost a great one, Jimmy Breslin. Long before 9/11, Jimmy was showing how great average New Yorkers are. https://t.co/SreaDzzls3

Friends/family tell me Jimmy Breslin kept writing until his death, asked a relative to finish his novel-in-progress https://t.co/as82I1Yt74
