He is an American hero and he is going to be missed deeply. I can’t believe that he’s really gone.
He is the former Minnesota Twins baseball coach. The legendary Rick Stelmaszek has passed away at 69 years old according to reports.
Stalmaszek helped the team win two World Series championships and is considered an American hero. Meanwhile, it was reported that he has died of complications from pancreatic cancer.
Furthermore, the team’s spokesman Dustin Morse shared that the news was released to the team on Monday. By a friend of the family, leaving them in tears.
Stelmaszek was bullpen coach under Billy Gardner, Ray Miller, Tom Kelly and Ron Gardenhire, and helped the Twins reach the postseason eight times.
The Twins later released a statement calling Stelmaszek a professional who “instilled a winning culture into generations of Twins players.” Anyone who was under his leadership would agree with that statement.
He has left a legacy behind with this team, and he will forever be remembered as a hero. Meanwhile, the news comes after the team announced he would be receiving a lifetime achievement award.
Stelmaszek spent 32 seasons as a Twins coach from 1981-2012. He was the longest tenured coach in Twins history and third-longest with a single team in major league history.
Twins President Dave St. Peter released a statement after hearing about the death of Rick. Furthermore, he was an incredible human, who was loving but tough.
According to the President of the Twins he loved everything about his job, and that’s what made him such an incredible coach. He impacted so many in a positive way, and he will never be forgotten.
“He was an absolute character, in every sense, an all-timer. And He was a central part of every team he was ever part of. Stelly was a salt-of-the-earth guy, a Chicago guy, a tough guy. Furthermore, he loved the Twins organization, he loved the clubhouse and he loved the camaraderie that came from it. He had a significant impact on so many players, in a way that was uniquely Stelly.”
Prayers for his family during this heartbreaking time.
