Famous Hollywood star just opened up about his devastating cancer diagnosis. I had no idea.
For months rumors have been flying around that actor Val Kilmer was diagnosed with cancer. For the longest time he avoided and denied the rumors, but has finally become more open about it.
The star does in fact have cancer, and it has been a tough battle for him. You probably remember Kilmer from “The Doors” and “Top Gun.”
Kilmer recently talked to The Hollywood Reporter about his two-year battle with throat cancer and we were all shocked. It was a huge step for him to come out and share that he has been battling this horrible disease.
The same interview also featured his son and daughter. Jack is 22, and Mercedes is 26. He talked about all things from acting, to being famous, to being diagnosed with the cancer two years ago.
He says that being famous isn’t all that it’s cracked out to be. In fact, that it has nothing to do with who he is as a person.
“Fame is sort of a mess,” he said. “You get treated differently, but it doesn’t have anything to do with who you actually are.”
This was the first time since May when he has sat down to talk about the illness as well.
Apparently he had “a procedure on his trachea has reduced his voice to a rasp and rendered him short of breath.”
Although it was a tough time for him and his family, he shares that being a Christian Scientist has really helped him cope with all of it. It’s because of his faith that he is still standing tall today.
He says that it has challenged him to approach life in a different way.
“I’d get upset when things like Oscars and recognition failed to come my way,” he said.“I would like to have more Oscars than anybody,” he said. “Meryl Streep must feel pretty good, you know? It must feel nice to know that everyone loves her. It’s about being loved.”
