Hollywood legend loses his lengthy battle to cancer, please pray for this family.
Oscar-winning thriller “The Silence of the Lambs” filmmaker, Jonathan Demme, was just announced dead after losing his battle with cancer. The creative and legendary producer died Wednesday morning (April 26) in New York at age 73.
His publicist released a statement after his death saying that he passed away from esophageal cancer. Demme had been suffering from the esophageal cancer since 2005, and even though some knew about it many take it as a shock to see him go so soon.
“Sadly, I can confirm that Jonathan passed away early this morning in his Manhattan apartment, surrounded by his wife, Joanne Howard, and three children,” the publicist said.
Although he was known for many different award winning shows like “Stop Making Sense”; “Philadelphia” and “Beloved,” his most famous film was Silence of the Lambs, which everyone loved him and knew him by. The show itself won several awards, and Demme himself even won an Oscar for best director.
“The movie was a box-office hit, spawned several sequels and a TV series, and chilled viewers with its portrait of Lecter, a refined but cannibalistic serial killer who bragged about eating a victim’s liver “with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.” -CNN
Hundreds of fellow directors, and actors posted about Demme’s death stating that he was one of the greatest. Not only did he have an incredible imagination, but he was able to bring that unique imagination to life through his films.
People were intrigued by his films because they weren’t typical, they were edgy and kept people on the edge of their seats. He had a unique talent, and he will be missed dearly.
Please keep his family in your prayers during this time.
