Longtime Disney legend has just passed away in his Hollywood home Prayers for the family during this heartbreaking time.
Legendary Disney Imagineer Marty Sklar passed away in his Hollywood Hills home on Thursday. He was 83 years old!
His career spanned for over 54 years and he was considered a legend by all that knew him. Sklar worked very closely with Disney founder Walt Disney. He was huge in helping Walt to “shape and realize his creative vision.”
He also played a very important part in the development of all of the Disney theme parks around the world. After his death was confirmed, Walt Disney Company’s CEO released a statement.
He shared that everything about Marty was legendary, and Disney would not be what it is today without him.
“Everything about Marty was legendary — his achievements, his spirit, his career,” said Bob Iger, chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company. “He embodied the very best of Disney, from his bold originality to his joyful optimism and relentless drive for excellence. He was also a powerful connection to Walt himself. No one was more passionate about Disney than Marty and we’ll miss his enthusiasm, his grace and his indomitable spirit.”
The legendary imagineer was born in New Brunswick, N.J., in 1934. It wasn’t until 1955 that he started a career working with Walt Disney. Meanwhile, he was still in college when he was recruited to create The Disneyland News paper.
This was right after they opened the Anaheim theme park. Therefore, after graduation, he joined Disney full time and would work closely with the founder.
He would even help script Walt Disney’s speeches and developing marketing materials for Walt Disney World and Epcot. It wasn’t until 2009 that Marty retired as executive vice president and Imagineering ambassador. Meanwhile, it was on Disney’s 54th birthday.
Skylar was even named Disney Legend in 2001. Needless to say, he was one of the greatest creatives to ever live.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Leah;. A son Howard and his wife, Katriina Koski-Sklar. And grandchildren Gabriel and Hannah. Also a daughter Leslie and grandchildren Rachel and Jacob. Prayers for the family.
