George Jones was one of the greatest country legends to walk the earth, and now we have actual footage of his memorial service.
He was part of the country music community for over 60 years before he passed away at age 81. One of his most famous tunes was “He Stopped Loving Her Today”,that won over the hearts of millions and grew his audience by thousands.
Jones was truly one of America’s greatest country artists throughout his career and we miss him deeply. When he passed away in 2013 the entire music world mourned his loss and he had thousands show up to his memorial service to honor his life.
The service took place at the Grand Ole Opry, and although it was one of the biggest losses in country music we didn’t see much footage from the service. Many legendary artists such as Loretta Lynn, Alan Jackson, Vince Gill and many others came together and performed beautifully at Jones’ funeral.
One of the artists, Vince Gill, had some trouble holding it all together for his performance too and now we get to watch it on video!
“The great thing is every time someone calls me Sweet Pea, I’ll get to think about him,” said Gill prior to his performance of “Go Rest High on That Mountain” with Patty Loveless, bursting into tears midway through.
According to country rebel the memorial service was almost three hours long. Artists from all over the world came to sing and speak at Jones funeral, which just proves how great of an impact his talent and his music had on people everywhere.
For those of you who don’t know, Jones was admitted into Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville after suffering from a fever and irregular blood pressure for quite some time. The rest was history, and he will truly never be forgotten.
