Willie Nelson’s son, Lukas, just shared an emotional announcement with all of his fans. I had no idea!
Many think that being Willie Nelson’s son may be the best gift in the world. Unfortunately, that wasn’t always true for his son Lukas.
Lukas grew up about legendary artists like Kris Kristofferson, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Toby Keith, and Neil Young. Although this was a perk to being his son Lukas says that his parents were very strict on him.
The two boys were both raised by their mother Annie D’Angelo and Willie Nelson. Willie and Annie had been married since 1991, and they lived in Maui, Hawaii.
According to Lukas he din’t “have a life” when he was in high school. Annie and Willie were both very protective of him and he was very isolated from all of his friends.
“I didn’t have a life in high school,” he says, also revealing that he used to practice guitar eight hours a day. “I didn’t try and go to parties. Never even drank until college. Didn’t have a girlfriend until I was 17. I was really a late bloomer. I was isolated. My parents were protective of me.”
This was such a shock for all of us knowing how much of an “outlaw” Willie is. Even though Lukas didn’t really love how protective his parents were, it made him and his father grow closer together.
Not only that, but it brought him up loving music just like his father. Lukas will even go on tour with Willie when he isn’t traveling with his own band, The Promise of the Real.
“Music was a way for me to spend more time with him,” he tells Chris Shiflett during today’s episode of Walking the Floor. “I thought if I got really good, I could join him on the road, which I did.”
I didn’t know Willie was so protective, I love these two!
