SNL destroys Rosie O’Donnell on live television, I can’t believe that they would do this.
It was just a few months ago that Rosie O’ Donnell announced that she wanted to play the part of Steven Bannon on SNL for the Trump parody. Unfortunately, things didn’t really work out in her favor and now they have spilled the beans on why she wasn’t chosen.
She first posted a picture of her as Bannon on her social media which started it all, but she genuinely wanted to play the part.
SNL decided not to go with O’Donnell for Bannon and the reason why has everyone talking. Leslie Jones spoke with The Hollywood Reporter sharing exactly why O’Donnell wasn’t cast and she said that she completely agrees with executive producer Lorne Michaels to not cast her.
Apparently O’Donnell and Trump have “publicly feuded in the past, with Trump making comments concerning her looks and weight.” Since that has happened many think that she only wants to play the part because she hates Donald Trump and not because she thinks it’s funny.
“I asked Lorne, ‘How come y’all aren’t bringing Rosie O’Donnell in [to play Bannon, per her plea on Twitter] or any of them to do it?’ And he was like, ‘When you’re playing a character, you can’t play it from hate. You have to play it from funny, because when you play it from hate, it looks like you’re just mean,’” explained the comedienne. “I love Rosie to death, but he might have been right on that one.”
Producer Lindsay Shookus also spoke with Hollywood Reporter stating that that they’ve had many people offer to take on the White House Senior Advisor, as well as other members of President Trump’s Cabinet. She feels that some others are a better fit than Rosie but they are still waiting for the perfect person to come along to play the roles.
“We’ve gotten a lot of pitches from people, big people, like ‘I can play this person on the Cabinet, or I can play this person,’” she explained. “It’s in the vein of Melissa [McCarthy] and Alec [Baldwin] and Larry David, and it’s never happened before. We got a lot of Kellyanne and [Steve] Bannon pitches. But the casting has to make sense. You don’t want to make a splash to make a splash. That’s not what we do.”
I can’t believe they burned her like this! I hope she’s okay…
