We never thought the day would come that these two would split, and we were wrong.
Many of us have come to love and admire Tarek and Christina El Moussa from the home renovation tv show Flip or Flop. We thought that the two of them would be together forever and nothing could separate them, but that doesn’t seem to be the came for them.
Just recently the couple announced their separation and we were all in shock. No one was sure exactly what happened between the two of them but they finally opened up in an interview with PEOPLE to discuss all things divorce. Little did we know that there was a gun involved in all of it.
“We decided to separate while we reevaluated the next steps in our married life,” the couple tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue. “We believed this was in the best interests of the children and the best way to determine a path forward.”
Although the couple recently announced the split they say that they have actually been separated since May 2016! Apparently Christina called the police after the two of them got into an altercation, and Terek left the home angry with a gun in his bag.
He hopped over their fence and fled strait for the Chino Hills State Park. Immediately after he was spotted by police he was obedient to anything they said and feels like “his intentions were misread.”
“Tarek was going on a hike and took a gun for protection from mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes and rattlesnakes,” they add. As for his weapon collection (which includes five firearms kept “unloaded and in a locked gun safe”) Tarek agreed to turn them over to police for 30 days.”
The couple says that they are trying to move on, and that they have been dating other people. Both Christina and Terek have been dating but neither one of them are ready to settle down and “label” anything. Not only that but they said that they plan to continue Flip or Flop in a professional manner.
“We have both dated other people following the separation, but neither of us is ready to announce anything in terms of another relationship….We plan to continue our professional life together by being professional, by doing our jobs well, by being prepared and by working hard.”
Not only that, but they say that they haven’t filed a legal divorce yet. It has been hard when thinking about the children.
“The most difficult part of the decision to separate was the kids. We want the best for them, and we’re doing everything we can to ensure that.”
This must be so tough! I can’t believe this.
