GPP Plays – GPP stands for Guaranteed Prize Pool; these are bigger tournaments that draw the interest of everyone and are a nice way for sites to bring in new players because they have a shot to win big money for a small amount. GPP’s are a lot different than cash games because this is where you want the lesser owned players and try to avoid the players that the masses are on, especially football. This is where you where you are going to target players that have a high risk, but also a high reward type play. The floor may be single digits (or even zero), but the reward could be huge. Take a player like DeSean Jackson of the Washington Redskins, he can easily get you three catches for 28 yards and no scores, but can also get three catches for 155 yards and two scores. This is why he is more of a GPP play than a cash play.
Matthew Stafford (FD $7,400, DK $7,200) – Stafford is actually a borderline cash game play for me, but an excellent GPP play. With the departure of Calvin Johnson, it will be interesting to see what his ownership is in week one against the dreadful Indianapolis Colts without their best defensive player and cornerback Vontae Davis. This should be a shootout and Stafford should be in right in the middle of it all.
Derek Carr ($FD $7,700), DK $7,300) – Oakland at New Orleans should be another shootout this weekend. Not to mention the jump that Oakland’s offense did last year and it may happen again this year. A sneaky thing to do is instead of pairing him with Amari Cooper because that is what a lot of people will do, do the pairing with tight end Clive Walford.
Todd Gurley (FD $8,900) – This is a FanDuel play only being that both Monday night games are not on the main slate for DraftKings. With all the traffic being on the cheaper options at running back and people going to probably gravitate to the high priced receivers. That may leave Gurley as a low owned player that has a shot of scoring two or three times. A matchup against the 49ers could be a very profitable thing.
Ryan Mathews (FD $6,100, DK $5,700) – With a lot of the traffic going to Spencer Ware and Deangelo Williams at RB, Mathews could go overlooked. He draws a fantastic matchup against the Cleveland Browns. With a rookie quarterback under center, Mathews could and likely will be leaned on heavily to start his season.
A.J. Green (FD $8,200, DK $8,400) – With all the attention going to the other top tier wide receivers, Green is going to be overlooked and very low owned in GPP’s. Throw in the fact that he will be in a battle all day with Darrelle Revis, and even more will not look his way. Green is a big time receiver and Revis is getting up there in age, I am not scared of using Green in GPP’s, especially at a low percentage.
Randall Cobb (FD $7,200, DK $7,600) – Cobb was a major disappointment last year, but a lot of that had to do with Jordy Nelson out for the year. With Nelson back, Cobb can go back to doing his old role all the time and drawing the team’s second corner with the top corner on Nelson. The game against the jaguars should be high scoring with both passing offenses being in the middle of it all.
Julius Thomas (FD $5,800, DK $3,800) – If people take Blake Bortles and lock him in with one of his weapons, the majority of people will do it with Allen Robinson. That is fine with me as I will lock in Thomas with Bortles. As mentioned above, the Packers and Jaguars game will be a high scoring affair with the passing offenses being the main reason why. Thomas may go overlooked at tight end in his own game, the Jared Cook love seems to be big with a lot of talk on him throughout the week.
