After being so close to championship glory, it’s been a season from hell for Carolina.
Last season, Carolina made the Super Bowl without arguably its best wide receiver in Kelvin Benjamin. It seemed the Panthers were perfectly poised for another deep playoff run, but at 4-7 no one on the team is happy.
Kelvin Benjamin threw his helmet in disgust during a loss to the Oakland Raiders and yelled at a coach on the sideline. He was taken out of the game and while the coaches claimed it was over a potential shoulder injury, Benjamin admitted to frustration.

“It’s an emotional game,” Benjamin said afterwards. “It wasn’t a big deal. Just emotion.” Benjamin has underperformed all season in spite of high expectations. He hasn’t had a 100 yard receiving game since week 2 and before a touchdown catch last night, he hadn’t caught a touchdown pass in seven games. Players and coaches came to Benjamin’s defense, including head coach Ron Rivera and receiver Ted Ginn, but the outburst was caught on TV and made pretty obvious.
Is this just the end of things or Carolina, or will Benjamin come back with a vengeance the rest of this season and going into next season?
