This is some of the best news we’ve heard this week!
Darlington is one of the most loved race tracks in NASCAR as is, but over the past couple of years it has mostly become known for one event. That of course would be the throwback weekend.
This weekend consists of drivers driving throwback cars and dressing up in a throwback fire suit. Significant others of the drivers may also be seen wearing some throwback attire.
The fans absolutely love it, as well as the drivers. And it has become one of the most popular race weekends of the season.
Although it’s a favorite, every year it’s not necessarily set in stone. We’ve just hoped it would happen and luckily it has.
But the Executives at Darlington obviously weren’t huge fans of winging it. They know what the fans want, so they want to deliver.
And that is the reason they decided that it was time to make things official!! (FINALLY!) The throwback weekend has officially been made official, meaning that the historical celebration at the famed 1.366-mile speedway will continue to be showcased with throwback paint schemes and events honoring the history of NASCAR.
Kerry Tharp, Darlington Raceway President, weighed in on the matter excitedly.
“We have worked closely with NASCAR to ensure that Darlington Raceway now has the exclusive rights to the Official Throwback Weekend of NASCAR for promotions and advertising of our event. Our return to Labor Day weekend, coupled with the Throwback theme has elevated our event across the entire sport and this move only solidifies that among our fans, race teams, sponsors, broadcast partners and media, among others.”
The idea that started in 2015 has gained so much momentum over the past couple of years, and we’re glad that it’s finally being made official.
So, the 2017 Bojangles’ Southern 500 is set for Sept. 3, 2017, with the VFW Sports Clips Help A Hero 200 XFINITY Series race taking place on Sept. 2, 2017.
WE ARE SO EXCITED!!!!
