It’s been an incredibly interesting 24 hours here in the world of NASCAR.

As we all know, Carl Edwards has officially announced that he will not return to the track this season, as of this morning. This information was leaked yesterday, January 10th, and we were all just waiting on Edwards to confirm.

We also heard rumors yesterday of who would replace Edwards if he left, and that person was Daniel Suarez. In the press conference held by Joe Gibbs Racing this morning, that information was also confirmed.

In the press conference, JGR executives explained a tiny bit of their thought process, and then continued on to express how Daniel is the perfect fit for their team. It’s obvious that they’re proud to have him.

“The first question was who could drive the car and daniel was the obvious choice. As everybody knows here, he had an unbelievable year in Xfinity. We’ve been around Daniel for two and a half years and I can honestly say this is a great voice for us and he has the right background. Daniel will be put with a team that has one of the best pit crews in the sport, obviously a better crew chief that we have confidence in. And so he’ll be surrounded with the No. 19 group. I think we’re gonna be putting him in the right place. “

And of course Daniel had a chance to speak as well, expressing mostly how he just couldn’t believe that he was being put in this position. All of a sudden his dreams are coming true- in a much shorter time than he could have ever imagined.

You could definitely hear the humility in Daniel’s voice as he spoke.

“This is amazing. I wasn’t expecting to be in this position right now. It’s been an amazing time and it’s just hard to believe that I’m in this position. We started this dream ten years ago in NASCAR, and right now, to be in this position, is amazing for me and for everyone who has been helping me. I feel like the No. 19 team is a perfect place to be for a rookie like me.”

Although we’re completely bummed about Carl not returning, we can’t help but be excited for Suarez. If anyone deserves this chance, it’s him.
