Last season the NASCAR community experienced a horrible loss.
On August 7th, 2016, Bryan Clauson was involved in a wreck during the Belleville Midget Nationals. He passed away shortly after from his injuries.
That devastated many people, especially his family members. His fiancé, Lauren Stewart, experienced some the worst pain she’s ever experienced in her life.
Fortunately, Clauson’s life is living on, but through someone else. Minutes after Bryan’s death, his heart was taken out and put into someone else’s body, thus saving that person’s life.
Lauren and Bryan’s parents had the opportunity to meet the man with Bryan’s heart. And it was something Lauren will never ever forget. The man who received Clauson’s heart has been nicknamed “Dan the Heart man.”
Lauren explained that at first, she did NOT want to go meet this man.
“I didn’t want to meet Dan. I did at first, but in the last month or so, I decided I didn’t want to make the trip to Omaha. I was doing it for my family – mainly for Bryan’s mom. I wanted to be there to support them because they have done everything to support me over the last eight months. I was scared. Anxious. Nervous. All of that. But the real reason I didn’t want to meet Dan was simple – he wasn’t Bryan.”
But during Easter weekend, the family traveled to Omaha and met him. It was then that Lauren felt the peace she had been longing for. Her heart was finally full once again. And the man surprisingly reminded her of Bryan.
“My heart was full, bursting, overflowing with love. Last night, my heart felt healed for the first time in eight months. My heart was happy because I got to feel and hear Bryan’s heartbeat again. Bryan’s heart is living on – beating inside of Dan the Heart Man. When Dan tells his life story, he has a way of making it sound almost boring (but he didn’t fool me!)…. almost like someone else I knew. Bryan always downplayed his career and accomplishments, especially when talking to new people. In that regard, Dan reminds me so much of B.”
That is amazing, and I love that it was on Easter weekend! What a perfect setting!
We’re so happy Lauren and the family were able to make that trip, and we’re so happy to know that Bryan will always live on.
