The Carolina Panthers have locked up one of their franchise’s most iconic players for another season.
Star linebacker Thomas Davis and the Panthers have agreed to a contract extension through the 2018 season, the team has announced. Davis’ deal was originally set to expire after the 2017 season.
The one-year extension is worth $6.75M, adding $2M guaranteed for 2017, according to Ian Rapoport.
Davis, 34, has been with the Panthers since being drafted in the first round in 2005. Davis has seemingly gotten better with age, accumulating at least 100 tackles each of the past five seasons, and 939 combined stops in 11 seasons overall.
The former Georgia product has picked off seven passes the last two seasons, and 10 since 2012, the second most in the NFL for a linebacker behind teammate Luke Kuechly over that span.
