Cam Newton really showed his true self this week.
All year Newton was complaining after suffering through a brutal season where the NFL’s referees decided it was fair game to clobber him. Now, during the holidays, Newton is really showing off who he is.
Newton spent part of his day off in an Atlanta hospital so he could grant the wish for a young fan of Auburn football who is suffering from a severe heart condition. The young boy, Austin Deckard, was diagnosed with advanced pulmonary hypertension and was visited by the Carolina Panthers QB just a day before he underwent a risky heart procedure.

Austin’s school teacher posted something on social media that caught the reigning NFL MVP’s eye and later led to a visit by the star quarterback. While the Panthers are mired in a rough season with nothing left to play for but pride, it is heart warming to see one of football’s true stars take the time to help a young man who truly needed the encouragement and inspiration. Hopefully the good vibes carry over into next season.
Are you surprised by Newton’s charitable actions, or is this nothing new for the face of the franchise?
