The talent is still hidden inside Byron Jones.

It wasn’t long ago that the view of the Dallas Cowboys safety was that he was an elite play maker.  Jones is an incredible athlete and has the skill set to be a star in this league.  However, it’s all about making sure he is playing the right position and role with this football team.  That is not happening currently, but the newest member of this coaching staff might be able to draw that out.

Dallas is hoping to form their own version of what Seattle had in their secondary!

The Cowboys brought in Kris Richard to help with their defense, especially on the backend.  He helped create the Legion of Boom in Seattle.  The same secondary that put fear in opposing offenses.  A group that would put fear in players coming over the middle with hard hitting safety’s.  They also had elite level cornerbacks that have the nose for the ball in coverage.  It was never a one-man group, it was a group effort that allowed them to have the success.  That is what Dallas is hoping he can bring to this team as they grow into that elite group.

The talent is there with the likes of Chidobe Awuzie, Jourdan Lewis, Xavier Woods, and Kavon Frazier.  Add the possibility of bringing Earl Thomas to this defense and we can truly see what kind of player Jones is.

Let’s say the Cowboys go out and get Thomas, it would limit the bodies they need at safety.  That would allow Dallas to move Jones back to cornerback and form a dynamic young trio at cornerback with Jones joining Awuzie and Lewis.  Jones could be an elite talent out of the slot, allowing him to use his athleticism to make plays for this defense.

The defensive line is adding the needed talent to put pressure on the QB.  That will allow the playmakers on the backend to make plays on the ball.  It appears that Dallas is making the right decisions, and this newest addition of Richard might be the key piece.

Where would you like to see Jones play in 2018?
