Chidobe Awuzie Switching Numbers In 2018

The Dallas Cowboys are hoping to build on their defensive success of 2017.

The 2017 season had many struggles to sort through, but for the most part, the defense did better than most would have imagined.  Yes, they gave up big plays, but that will happen with a young defense.  They hope that the youth on that side of the ball can improve and become the group they envisioned when drafting them over the last three seasons.

The secondary showed signs of what the future holds in Dallas!

Dallas used four picks on the secondary this past draft.  Three of those players had an impact at one point or another in 2017.  Chidobe Awuzie and Jourdan Lewis look to have a major impact moving forward as key pieces of that cornerback group.  Xavier Woods is a player that has forced his way into a bigger role moving forward at safety with his play as a rookie last year.  Marquez White spent his rookie season on the Cowboys practice squad.

Awuzie is looking forward to a fresh start in 2018, and not only as a player.  Looking to enter his second year healthy, something he struggled with in 2017, Awuzie is changing numbers.  He will be wearing the number 24, changing his number from 33, which he wore as a rookie (via 247 Sports).

The former Colorado standout is hoping to bring back success to the No. 24.  The best player to wear that number in Dallas is hands down Everson Walls.  Awuzie looks to put his name in the books as a member of the Cowboys.

Chidobe is a versatile player that peaked Dallas’ interest in that 2017 draft.  He showed his versatility as a rookie but didn’t have the impact he envisioned following draft night.  Health was the main contributor to his frustrating rookie season, but when healthy, Awuzie proved he was well worth the second-round pick.

Will Awuzie be that play making cornerback Dallas has desperately needed for years?
