Cowboys To Re-Open Contract Talks With Zack Martin

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are looking to open up the contract talks with Zack Martin.

Dallas has a couple major contracts to settle up with this off-season.  One is guaranteed with DeMarcus Lawrence, but the other is hopeful.  Martin doesn’t need to get done, as he is still under contract in 2018.  However, it might be easier to get it done before he becomes a free agent following the 2018 season.

The two sides couldn’t agree to a new contract last summer!

Prior to the finish of the 2016 season, Dallas and Martin’s people tried to get a contract done.  That didn’t happen, but both sides agreed it was just a matter of time to get the deal done (via 247 Sports).

“We’ll go back and revisit that,” Martin said, via The Dallas Morning News. “I was lucky enough to be drafted here and I want to be here for my career. Hopefully we can get something worked out. I think we had good talks [before the 2017 season], but at that time I didn’t want it to linger during the season and think about it.

“Kind of held it and played this year and hopefully we can talk and get something done in this offseason.”

I have no doubt this off-season will be much more than just the talking side of things!

Dallas wants to get the deal done, as does Martin.  Both parties are better to make this work out and get that long-term deal done.  Martin makes this line better with his presence, but he is also a better player for playing alongside Tyron Smith and Travis Frederick.

When it comes to the money, Martin deserves every bit of what he is about to make.  The Cowboys will make him the highest paid player at his position.  He has never missed a game in his four-year career, making the Pro Bowl and All-Pro squad in each of those four seasons.

Dallas is known to reward their best players when they are up for new contracts.  Tyron Smith and Travis Frederick both received the highest paid contracts at their positions.  No reason to think the same will be said about Martin this upcoming off-season.

Make it happen now and put this behind both Martin and the Cowboys!
