The Dallas Cowboys must fix their issues on the outside at wide receiver.
This off-season will be interesting on where the Cowboys go. They don’t have desperate needs to repair, but they do have needs that need attention.
Wide receiver is a need Dallas must fix if they are to truly contend in 2018!
Dak Prescott got plenty of the blame in 2017, but many of those struggles can be put on the hands of his wide receivers. Dez Bryant, Terrance Williams, and Cole Beasley had their share of struggles this past season. The trio proved that the WR position isn’t as strong as some would have thought.
There is talent there, but to get back in the playoffs, Dallas needs more production out of the position. The return of Ezekiel Elliott will help, but Dallas needs to go out and make a splash in free agency.
The Cowboys normal free agency plan must change in 2018!
They don’t need a slot receiver as both Beasley and Ryan Switzer are capable to get the job done. Beasley was excellent in 2016 but dropped off in 2017. It might not be the most popular scenario, but maybe trading Beasley would be wise for this team. He is still a slot receiver that has plenty of value and would likely draw interest if on the market. Trading him would do two things for the Cowboys. It would allow Switzer to get a larger role in this offense, something he needs moving forward. The move would also open cap space, something Dallas needs desperately.
The options are out there with that freed up money!
A few names to keep an eye on are Sammy Watkins, Donte Moncrief, Paul Richardson, and Tyrell Williams just to name a few. All four options are young and would instantly be an upgrade over Williams or Brice Butler, the options Dallas has been working with over the last couple years opposite of Dez.
If Bryant is willing to take a pay cut and Dallas wants to spend top dollar, two options are there for the taking. Jacksonville’s Allen Robinson and Jarvis Landry will be the prize free agents of that position. However, both options will demand top dollar and might be out of Dallas’ price range. That is where Dez can come in and help free up the space. If either option is to become Cowboys, it will likely come at the hand of Bryant.
Who would you like to see Dallas go after in free agency?
