The Dallas Cowboys have a lot of decisions to make during this upcoming off-season.
One of the biggest decisions that Dallas will have is what they do with their free agent defensive end. DeMarcus Lawrence is entering a free agency period that will make him very rich. He led this Cowboys team in sacks with 14.5, just a couple shy of NFL leader, Chandler Jones (Arizona Cardinals).
Lawrence knows that the Cowboys want him, and he wants to be back in Dallas long-term (via ESPN).
“I mean, I already know what my situation is,” Lawrence said. “I really don’t care about it because I already know how the Cowboys feel about me, and they know how I feel about the organization. My agent will take care of everything, bro. He knows how it feels. He knows my right moves, so he’ll do it.”
The 14.5 sacks that Lawrence had was tops on this Cowboys team.
Lawrence had more sacks in 2017, than he had his first three seasons in the league. Despite back surgery last year, Lawrence was one of the best players on this Cowboys defense. Not only did he play a full 16 games, he will also represent the Cowboys in the pro bowl this February.
The Cowboys moved up in that 2014 draft to select the former Boise State standout in the second round. That proved they had plans for him long-term. With the season he just had, it just cements those plans.

DeMarcus Lawrence doesn’t know for sure what 2018 is going to bring, but he sounded like a guy who knows he’s not going anywhere — one way or the other — when he spoke to reporters today. #cowboyswire

Getting a deal done early is the best option, but this is the NFL and that likely won’t happen. Both sides will look to get the best option for them, but at the same time trying to be fair. That might force Dallas to use the franchise tag on the pass rushing specialist.
“I don’t know where the chips are going to lay,” Lawrence said. “Say they spend all their money, what are they going to do? Tag me. Point-blank. Period. So I ain’t got time to sit here and think about that. I’m trying to figure out if I’m going to Jamaica or Hawaii.”
Lawrence isn’t the only player to get signed long-term. Dallas also must get Zack Martin signed this off-season as well. Both players are top of the Cowboys list this off-season. One will likely get done soon, with the other possibly getting the franchise tag slapped on him as they work on that next deal.
The combination of David Irving and Lawrence proved to be one of the best in 2017!
