The Dallas Cowboys head to Atlanta to take on the Falcons on Sunday afternoon.
This week will be the Cowboys first game without their All-Pro running back. Ezekiel Elliott had his six-game suspension reinstalled and will begin that suspension this week at Atlanta.
The Cowboys will likely lean on Dak Prescott a little more than usual, and that isn’t a bad thing.
Prescott is already putting up solid numbers, now he will start to make a point of why he should be considered the MVP this season. Atlanta can be beat in the secondary and that is where the Cowboys will look to attack this team, but more than likely over the middle of the field.
Look for Cole Beasley and Jason Witten to both put up solid stat lines this weekend in Atlanta. Beasley has been used much more as a red zone target than the way he was last year to move the chains. I see the Cowboys going back to that game plan with the Elliott suspension.
The ground game will be a committee approach, and no one really stands out more than the other in this game. Keep an eye on Rod Smith moving forward, he might just take over the starting job while Zeke is out.
As for the Falcons, they have not been the same group that went on to the Super Bowl and collapsed at the hands of Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. Sorry, is it too soon to talk about the Super Bowl collapse? I didn’t think so, let’s all have a laugh at the Falcons expense (insert laughs here). Okay, back to the game.
Julio Jones and Davonta Freeman are both excellent players and mismatches on normal days. However, both are banged up and we don’t know if they will be impact players or just out there as a decoy. I think the biggest threat on this team is the other running back Tevin Coleman.
The defense will have a major say in the outcome on Sunday!
The pass rush in Dallas will get back to work and so will the top combo in the league. DeMarcus Lawrence wasn’t able to get a sack for the first time all season. I see him making up for that with a bold number of three sacks this Sunday. His sack partner, David Irving will get a one sack himself, as the defense steps up their game in a major way at Atlanta.
