The Dallas Cowboys are in desperate need for linebackers.
There have been plenty of opportunities to bring in a veteran linebacker to this football team in 2017. Veterans like David Harris and Navarro Bowman were there for the taking at some point. However, both players decided to sign elsewhere, but we don’t know if the Cowboys gave the effort they should of at the time to bring them in.
Did the Cowboys mess up by not going after free agent LB’s harder in 2017?
Harris has been used as a depth linebacker in New England. Bowman was said to have the Cowboys on his short list, but decided to sign with the Oakland Raiders. Both options would be a nice option for this Cowboys team right now, especially with the recent news of Sean Lee’s injury.
Lee is likely out for the next three games, giving this defense a major hole on that side of the ball. Lee missed a pair of games earlier this season. In those two games, the Cowboys gave up 35 points in back-to-back games, as well as losing both.
With Jaylon Smith still recovering from his knee injury, he just isn’t ready to play full-time yet. He did okay early in the season in the absence of Anthony Hitchens, but again, proved that he wasn’t ready for the full-time label.
Teams took advantage of Smith in coverage during his first stint at starter.
It appears that Smith will be put in the starting lineup again. It’s not a guarantee that he will have the same problems in coverage. However, we would all love to see him brought along at his own pace.
David Helman of DallasCowboys.com, believes LB is a big need for 2018. However, he did say that he isn’t ready to close the book on Jaylon’s career in this league.
“Regardless of where Jaylon Smith’s career is trending – and I still think it’s way too early to close that book, FWIW – this season is underscoring LB as a pretty big need for the Cowboys in 2018.”

With Lee out, the Cowboys will be relying on Smith, Damien Wilson, Anthony Hitchens, and Justin Durant to get the job done. We know how that went the last time out, let’s hope that this time it will be different.
Is Ezekiel Elliott or Sean Lee’s absence a bigger problem for this team?
