Is LB The True Top Need In Dallas If Anthony Hitchens Returns?

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are not far off from being right back in the post-season.

The 2017 football season didn’t go as planned for this Cowboys team, but by no means are they as bad off as some are talking.  Dallas may be a player or two away from being the favorite in the NFC next season.

Dallas will have some big decisions to make over the next two seasons!

This year, Dallas will need to find the funds to sign DeMarcus Lawrence, and it wouldn’t hurt to sign Zack Martin long-term this off-season as well.  By signing Martin this year, it would allow Dallas to gain some cap relief.  We went over that in a past article, click here to read.

Lawrence isn’t the lone pass rusher that will become a must sign for the Cowboys.  David Irving will be crucial for the Cowboys to sign long-term as well.  Many believe that it’s not a matter of if both Lawrence and Irving are signed, but when it happens.

Anthony Hitchens becomes a wildcard free agent this off-season!

With Lawrence, Irving, and Martin getting most of the attention, Dallas will need to make a quick decision on Hitchens.  The decision on him, might have a direct impact on where Dallas goes in the first round of this April’s NFL draft.

Roquan Smith is a near lock to be a star in this league.  He has all the tools to make it in this league, and could become an instant star the first time he steps in the NFL.  With the injury history of Jaylon Smith and Sean Lee, along with the uncertainty of Hitchens, LB is the top priority of this team.

Dallas has had a history of not realizing a weakness!

Linebacker was a weak point last season, but Dallas didn’t realize that.  They didn’t use a single pick on the position, and doing the same in 2018 could be a costly decision.

A player like Smith doesn’t come along every day.  His speed and play making ability is something Dallas could use in that second level of this defense.

Whether Hitchens is back or not, LB is still the top priority in this draft!
