It’s only preseason, but the Dallas Cowboys young tight end has shown how much he has improved since draft day.
Rico Gathers follows up his Hall-of-Fame game with another solid outing in Los Angeles!
The Cowboys tight end group has gotten a little tricky over the first two games of the preseason. Second-year tight end, Rico Gathers, has shown what he can do with his athletic ability and size on the football field. He has now caught a touchdown in both preseason games in 2017.
What does Gathers do to follow up his fantastic Hall-of-Fame game? He matches that with the game against the Los Angeles Rams. A game that he was able to get in the endzone for a second straight game.
Gathers finished the game with four catches for 47 yards and a score. The pass by rookie Cooper Rush was right on the money, and much different than Gathers box out touchdown a week ago. This game proved that Gathers has improved and last week was no fluke.
Back-to-back solid games almost guarantees a spot on the active 53-man roster for Gathers.
This @rush_cooper TD pass was absolutely PERFECT…

The Cowboys will likely carry four tight ends with James Hanna and Geoff Swaim joining Gathers to backup Jason Witten. Gathers will still be the fourth option at tight end, but he will be the receiving option of the other three. Swaim and Hanna will continue their role of blocking tight end for the Cowboys offense.
It will be hard to keep Gathers off the field in the regular season. Even if he is fourth on the depth chart. He has proven to be a matchup nightmare, but still has not played much against opposing team’s starters on defense. That might come in the fourth game as the Cowboys will use that as the regular season tune-up.
This proved that the Cowboys knew what they were doing last year taking Gathers late!
