The Green Bay Packers need pass rushers with the recent departures of this football team.
As we headed into the draft, the Packers knew they needed pass rushers, especially with the departures of Julius Peppers and Datone Jones. They hope to get that from rookie linebacker Vince Biegel, a player that they liked and hope he can contribute right away as a rookie in this league.
Per SB Nation, the former Wisconsin standout became a force on the defensive side of the ball, and a major headache for opposing offensive linemen that had the objective to try and stop him. As a Wisconsin native, the former Badger is hoping to put his skills that he had in college to the NFL game on Sunday’s.
It isn’t common to see a fourth-round selection come in and have an immediate impact and to be a force in this league, but it also isn’t out of the question for the Packers rookie Biegel to buck that trend, much like Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott did in 2016. It’s all about the playing time for these players and if they can play, like Biegel can, all they need is the chance to prove it.
With Peppers and Jones gone in 2017, the Packers are looking for players to come in and play. That will lead to open snaps that the former Wisconsin Badger is hoping to receive and has more than enough skills to earn that playing time. Another bonus for Biegel is that he can play either on the inside to get pressure on the quarterback, or the Packers could find the need to move him outside and used as an edge rusher in the team’s 3-4 defensive scheme.
My initial gut tells me that we will see Biegel make some eye-opening plays in camp and during the preseason, this will open the coach’s eyes on him. He likely won’t get a ton of run early on, but I see him increasing his role and snaps as the season moves along. With the linebacker group in Green Bay, the opportunity will be there to earn playing time, but at the same time, Beigel will need to earn it.
Green Bay’s offense is set up to be contenders for a title in 2017, it’s up to the defense and the hometown kid from Wisconsin to help them!
