Stepping into the NFL game, it’s all about comfort when talking with the newest member of the Green Bay Packers.
The Packers used a mid-round pick on the talented linebacker out of Wisconsin, Vince Biegel. The pick was to add depth to a position that needed it with the departures they received in the off-season. As an alum at Wisconsin, along with being a hometown kid, Biegel is excited to step into the Packers organization, an organization that carries plenty of tradition.
Per packers.com, Biegel comes into a situation that couldn’t be better for a rookie. He comes into a situation that has leaders on both sides of the ball. Aaron Rodgers may be the overall team leader, but don’t underestimate the leaderships of fellow linebackers Clay Matthews and Nick Perry.
He also realizes the opportunity he has and what the team is expecting out of him.
“I think it’s also a statement,” Biegel said on Friday. “I think there’s some high expectations here.”
Even though his first opportunity to show what he can do didn’t go as planned, Biegel expects they will come. He was forced off the field of his first Packers practice with an injury to his left hand. However, he doesn’t seem worried that it will linger or be an issue.
“Disappointed obviously that I didn’t get to finish my first practice as a Green Bay Packer,” he said. “Obviously I was really looking forward to this moment, but this is going to be a bumpy road. There’s ups and downs in journey.”
Coming in to the Packers as a Wisconsin native, Beigel knows what this team is all about and is ready to step in and do his part.
“Growing up in central Wisconsin, I’m in the heart of it, if you will,” he said. “I definitely have a strong appreciation for the platform that I’m on. I’m just trying to take advantage of it.”
McCarthy on Vince Biegel: He drove here. Was the first one here. Sat in the front row. He's off to a great start.

I think the Biegel and the Packers are a perfect fit for each other and will be looking forward to seeing what the rookie can do, not only in his first season as a Packer, but his future as well. You always love to see the hometown stories and yes, plenty don’t pan out the way you or the team expect out of them, but this seems to be something different.
The defense isn’t completely to the level that you need them to be, but they are getting closer with this pick and the moves this team has made. Players are still out there that can help this football team and hopefully Ted Thompson and the front office need to find them and be willing to continue looking to make this team better.
The excitement and appreciation is over, it’s time to get down to business for Biegel and this Packers football team!
