Big Ben Gives Update On Possible Retirement That Will Not Be Popular With The Steelers Fan Base

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers have received the news that no one had expected and have been dreading for the time to come.

Prior to the start of the 2017 NFL draft, the Steelers have been informed that star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be hanging up his cleats and will not be taking the field in 2017.  The news comes as a complete shock to most people in the NFL, but the news completely turns the locker room upside down.

Pittsburgh suddenly finds themselves in a desperate need for a starting quarterback and more than likely will be in search of one of the QB prospects during this April’s draft.  The Steelers currently sit at the 30th position in this year’s draft, but might be looking to move up to take one of the three premier quarterback options.

Clemson’s DeShaun Watson, North Carolina’s Mitchell Trubisky and Notre Dame’s Deshone Kizer are considered the top three quarterback talents in this year’s draft.  With that said, no one is a true game changer, but Watson might be the closest to that, but is he truly worth a top half pick and for the Steelers to give up what is needed to move that high up?  I don’t think anyone is worth a top 15 pick in this year’s draft as a QB, but with the recent news, it might force the Steelers to do something that they truly don’t want to do.

With the New England Patriots reloading and continue to be the top dog in the AFC, teams like the Steelers might need to make some crazy moves in the draft, especially with Big Ben retiring.  If Pittsburgh is to continue to be considered one of the better teams in the AFC, they must find that replacement for Roethlisberger now.

Okay, before this goes too far, it’s time to step away from the cliff and realize that this is just an April Fool’s prank and Big Ben has not retired from football.  However, he hasn’t officially come out and said he was playing either, so is this truly a prank or a nightmare that we continue to live in?  I for one will not be happy until Roethlisberger officially says that he will be back for 2017.  With that said, I see no reason why Big Ben would hang up the cleats with the team he has in Pittsburgh right now and should be back under center for the start of the OTA’s.

New England and the rest of the AFC have plenty to worry about when Big Ben and the Steelers get back on the field to dethrone the Patriots for a trip to Super Bowl 52.
