The Pittsburgh Steelers were closer than they may realize in losing one of their best and important players for this upcoming season.
The Steelers are thankful that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is returning for another season, but it wasn’t a sure thing to happen as the 2016 season came to a disappointing end. Following the loss to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game, Roethlisberger wasn’t sure what the future had in store for him, at least regarding the Steeler’s starting quarterback.
Per behindthesteelcurtain.com, Roethlisberger was serious about stepping down, but decided to come back for at least another season. Don’t think that his teammates had a big part of his decision to come back.
Steelers All-Pro wide receiver Antonio Brown told Joe Rutter of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that he talked to his quarterback, but he didn’t want to bug him on his future in the off-season.
“A little bit,” Brown said, in reference to if he talked to Roethlisberger. “I was trying to keep him on positive things.”
It’s no doubt that Big Ben coming back was a priority for Brown. The duo makes one of the best quarterbacks-to-wide receiver combos in the league, if not the best.
“He’s my guy,” Brown said. “I wouldn’t want to play with anyone else. Thinking of him leaving is kind of discouraging.”
Brown continued to talk about how important his QB is to him.
“Ben is a warrior. He’s been through it all, seen it all, done it all,” Brown said. “You never know the motivation is, the drive to keep him going, but I knew if he was going to be out here, he was going to give us everything he’s got.
“You see that from him the first couple of days, his intensity, his motivation. He’s already been here early, getting signals, the details from the meeting room. I never question his commitment.”

While he hasn't led the league, Ben Roethlisberger is the only QB with 1,000+ deep passing yards in each of the last three seasons. pic.twitter.com/3bAci6Gyk2

With Big Ben, Brown, and Le’Veon Bell on this offense, the Steelers are as good as anyone in this league. If Roethlisberger is under center, you have to consider them in the top handful of teams in this league. The only thing that will make the loss last year go away is to reach the big game come February, that is this goal as always with this football team. The 2017 season only becomes a success with a Super Bowl 52 victory and parade to follow.
We don’t know how many years Roethisberger has left in this league, but as of right now, he is 100% ready to go in 2017!
