Ben Roethlisberger didn’t mean it, guys. He’s not really going anywhere but the football field.
This declaration comes despite statements from his former teammate in May that the longtime Steelers QB was considering hanging it up — “He’s dealt with a lot of injuries,” Willie Colon explained.
But, in an interview this week with this Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, he said he didn’t mean to cause alarm. He just recognizes that he’s 35 years old and this isn’t going to go on forever. From the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
“It was just thoughts. It was just, I think, a prudent thing to do. Maybe I should’ve worded it, like, ‘Hey, I’m probably coming back, but I need to consider all my options.’ It had nothing to do with the [loss to the Patriots in the AFC championship] and this and that.
“It really was all about football, life, what’s going on at my age.”
Then, in a statement that won’t help anything, he said he wasn’t looking to play forever. Again from the Post-Gazette:
“I wanna be right here, right now and give everything I have to this. When I’m done, I’ll know I’m done.”
